金門四面環海，擁有豐富的海岸類型，包括泥灘、沙灘、岩礁、河口與紅樹林濕地等多種型態，其中也展現了金門潮間帶生態的多樣性；而隨著近年來軍管時期的結束，人為活動逐漸增加，金門的棲地環境也在悄然變化。
為了宣導棲地永續利用的重要性，水試所於10月中旬辦理《從台江內海啟程：棲地經營管理新典範》海洋環境教育活動(水產試驗所提供)
活動下半段則是前往后湖海濱公園進行田野調查，參加者個個帶著耙子及水桶，走進沙灘尋找貝類蹤跡，過程中邱老師也會不時帶給大家潮間帶上的各種趣聞，以及教導民眾如何辨別沙灘上的貝類，找出不同物種之間的差異性，而到了活動的尾聲，參加者將挖到的貝類置於墊板上量測殼長，也可觀察到許多花蛤存在不足2公分的情形，屬未完全成熟的個體，因此老師也向大家再次宣導「抓大放小」的重要性，透過放生未達成熟殼長的個體，實現金門海岸生態永續經營之目標。
