近期金門多處水域及沿岸地區頻繁記錄到水獺活動蹤跡，包含湖泊、溪流、排水溝渠及潮間帶周邊，生態觀察顯示其出現頻率與分布範圍皆有逐漸擴大的趨勢。相關單位與生態團體指出，這不僅顯示金門整體水域環境品質有所改善，也代表當地生態系正朝向較為健康與穩定的方向發展，對生物多樣性而言具有正面意義。
水獺屬於重要的生態指標物種，其生存狀況能反映濕地、河岸與水域環境的健康程度。然而，隨著水獺活動範圍擴大，與人類生活空間的重疊也隨之增加。金龜路段因鄰近多條水道及潮間帶，成為水獺夜間或清晨移動的重要通道，過去曾發生水獺過馬路時受驚，甚至不幸遭車輛撞擊的案例，對動物保育與行車安全皆構成潛在風險。
為提升道路安全並兼顧珍稀野生動物保護，交通主管單位已在金龜路部分路段設置水獺警示路牌，提醒駕駛人行經該區域時減速慢行、提高警覺。相關單位表示，未來將持續監測水獺的活動情況與族群變化，並視實際需求評估增設更多警示設施或其他保護措施，同時呼籲民眾尊重自然生態，共同維護野生動物安全的活動空間，實現交通安全與生態保育的雙重目標。
